Project Focus

CACU will explore creative and innovative capacities of students through proper understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, their immediate environment, the extreme climate change threat and the sustainable future; to present ideas and solutions towards shaping the future we want through the application of 17 SDGs. Solution17 for CACU will look critically at the global effect of Climate Change. The world is currently facing climate crisis, and sustainable solutions is a MUST. At Covenant University, 17 finalists will be selected to unravel the causes, the effects and solutions to Climate Change through the prism of SDGS. The 17 champions will be empowered to lead change movement within and outside the university community.

The project theme “A Climate Crisis; A Race We Must Win” unravels the danger it portends, the immediate solutions and investment to fight climate crisis.

It’s evident that the human exploitation has changed the Earth through deforestation, burning of fossil fuel, ocean pollution, emissions of carbon dioxide and destruction of our biodiversity, polar icecaps are shrinking, and the desert areas are increasing. We cannot continue to pollute the atmosphere, poison the ocean and exhaust the land; indeed, the earth is a fine place and it is worth fighting for.

Reimagine the World We Want

The project is designed to “Reimagine the World We Want” through sustainable solutions. The initiative will look at:
  • The effect of climate change on people, food, health, education, water, peace, environment, production, consumption and prosperity.
  • How to achieve a healthy world through the power of People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership in 2030
  • Major causes of greenhouse gas emissions- (high dependence on energy products and others)
  • Radical transformation of energy industries in dealing with climate change; and the agents of transformation.
  • The need to go beyond oil and gas – from biofuels to hydrogen, from solar to wind and power to produce cleaner energy. Cleaner to tackle climate change and cleaner to deal with air pollution.
  • How to provide more energy: to bring the many benefits of having a modern energy supply to those who do not have it today. The World Bank estimates that around 840 million people live without electricity today and three billion rely on polluting fuels such as wood and dung to cook food and for heating.
  • Climate Change as the greatest threat to human health, global security and economic recovery
  • Sustainable Solutions to Climate Change through transforming community action to Global impact.
